Sydney Sorbet is a mezzo-soprano currently based in Cincinnati, OH. Some of her performance experience includes Ruth in Dark Sisters (CCM Opera), Mother/Giant’s Wife in Jack and the Beanstalk (Opera Louisiane), Nettie Fowler in Carousel (LSU Opera), Julia Child in Bon Appétit (LSU Honors Thesis) Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte (LSU Opera), Ottone in L’incoronazione di Poppea (Red River Lyric Opera), and La Badessa in Suor Angelica (Music on Site, Inc.). 

 

Sorbet has won several awards for her singing. Some of the highlights include an Encouragement Award from the Gulf Coast Region and Winner of the New Orleans District in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Second place in the Corbett Opera Scholarship Competition, and the Governor’s award for best 1st place winner in the Southern Region of NATS.

 

Sorbet has attended several operatic training programs, including Opera in the Ozarks, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Red River Lyric Opera, The Collaborative Piano Institute, and Music on Site, Inc.

 

In addition to performing, Sorbet has worked as a director and assistant director. She was a finalist for the Charles Nelson Reilly American Prize in Directing (College/University Division) for her direction of Rodrigo Camargo’s Emily Somebody. Some other notable productions Sorbet has worked on include Lucia di Lamermoor (Assistant Director, Painted Sky Opera), La Casa de Bernarda Alba by Griffin Candy (Co-director, Turner-Fischer Center for Opera at LSU), and Amahl and the Night Visitors (Assistant Director, Music on Site, Inc.).

 

Sorbet is currently working on a Master of Music at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) under the tutelage of Dr. Quinn Ankrum. She previously received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with a minor in Arts Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Theatre, where she was named a Presser Scholar in her Senior Year. Sorbet also graduated Summa cum laude and with Upper Division Honors Distinction from the Ogden Honors College at LSU.
